Let not your past define you

Sometimes painful and shameful experiences from our past can continue to linger and hold us back from moving forward.

It's sad how sometimes progress is retarded by the lingering past. You try hard to move on, but your past keeps pulling you back. Maybe you were adulterous before you made a turn around in your life, but now you keep meeting friends from the past who remind you of your shame. You might have had an abortion during your years of ignorance, yet now your conception problems take you back to that shameful past. Maybe you were once arrested and humiliated, and the scars of your prison experience tend to remain fresh in you.

Listen; it doesn't matter what is in your past, what matters is what you have managed to become now. You will remain a slave of your past mistakes and hurts if you do not strive to forget those painful and shameful experiences.

No matter how bad your past is, you can recover from it and move on. Talk about having a past, Paul in the Bible had a very horrible past, that's why he says "But the one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead..." (Phil 3:13)

Forget about those abortions, forget about that one night stand, forget about your bullying school experiences, forget about your criminal record; that does not define you! When you chose to change and begin a new life with Jesus Christ he took away your guilt and shame. You are not guilty anymore! You don't deserve to live a life of shame!

Rise today and focus on what you have now become and what God is establishing in your future. You are greater than your past!

It doesn't matter what you used to be, what matters is what you have now become!
