Noticing those around us

It's easy to get so hooked up in our daily pressures and challenges that we tend to forget that there are people around us who need us.

Life is full of demands and deadlines that can keep you busy every day of the month until year end. Unless you are determined to create time for family and friends, you may realise that you hardly have any free time in your daily schedules. It's good to be busy, but too much of anything is not good for anyone. There is need to maintain a balance between your toiling and your resting if you are to remain healthy and energetic.

Maybe you feel guilty taking a break when there is still lots of work in your pending tray, but you need to make time for others. Jesus had a busy schedule too, yet he always paused to notice those around him. In Mark 6:30-33, he pauses to notice the woman who had touched his garment. He could have shoved her off with the lame excuse that he was too busy, but he chose to heal her. Soon after healing her someone else comes needing help and he attends to him promptly.

Do you notice your family at home? Maybe your children have been touching your trousers to get your attention but you keep shoving them off. It could be your spouse who has been begging for your attention, but you choose to concentrate on other things.

Listen, all your toiling will not amount to much if you have noone to share your success with. You need family, you need friends. Life is too short, take time this week to notice your family needs and attend to them.

True Christianity involves noticing needs and meeting these needs the best way you can.
