Whatever you do

It's easy to preach about helping the needy in our society, but how many of us are practising it?

We all come from different backgrounds and we all get different opportunities in life. We have many people who are less fortunate than us, and they really depend on us for almost everything. What are you doing in order to better the lives of those who are less fortunate? It's easy to fall into the habit of blaming the needy for their predicament. Yes, maybe they brought it on themselves, maybe they have not worked very hard to better themselves; but we are not called to judge others but to help them. That is why in Matthew 25;40 Jesus says;- "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me..."

We should always aim to reach out to the needy. We have a responsibilty to help the less fortunate in our families and in the community. You maybe thinking that you have nothing to give, but it's not about how much you give, its all about reaching out. You could say a kind word, give a listening ear to a troubled fellow, or you can even share a meal with the hungry. Look inside your wardrobe, there are some items there that you no longer use, you could give that to someone who really needs it.

Remember, giving to the poor is like lending to God; he will pay you back!
