"Redeeming time"
One of the many things that happen so fast in our lives is technological advancement. In practically all sectors, medicine, telecommunications, energy, power development and many others, cut throat technological advancement is at the center of many things.
Broadcasting is no exception; technological advancement is also taking center stage. In Matthew 16:1-4:
v3 "..And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?"
As practitioners in Christian communication, we need to be wary of the "signs of the times." Today more and more people have access to various views and insights into various Christian subjects. The Lost Tomb of Jesus documentary premiered on the Discovery Channel, The Da Vince Code or the CNN special The Christian After Jesus. All these bear testimony to the ever increasing influx of alternative thoughts on the Christian faith.
Our role as Christian communicators has to be redefined; in terms of spiritual as well as technological relevance to our audiences. We need to develop an ability to contend for the faith (Jude 3) by investing into technology that gives us access to the millions of scholars, would be Christians and many others.
In Matthew 24:42:the Bible encourages us to "Watch therefore:" In other words we should be alert to the changes in our environment.
Discerning the times becomes important, and responding to the times becomes an imperative.
