BIO- diesel

Zimbabwe this month opened a bio-fuel plant that will see the production of bio-diesel from the Jatropha plant.

The plant funded by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) is the first of its kind in Africa and has the capacity to produce 100 million litres of bio-diesel annually.

The plant which processes jatropha, cotton seed, sunflower and soya to produce bio-diesel, is a joint venture between the central bank and Youn Woo Investments of South Korea.

The plant once fully operational will yield enough diesel to meet Zimbabwe's agricultural fuel requirements.

The plant was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, President Robert Gabriel Mugabe.
