Power cuts affect internet connections
Recent spates of power cuts in Zimbabwe have affected internet connections.
In circulars sent to customers this past week, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) advised customers that e-mail traffic would be slowed down. This has been caused by power cuts that have rendered servers powerless - literally.
ISPs have resorted to using generators to run servers at specific times as the fuel that runs the generators is also not readily available.
Zimbabwe, like the rest of Southern Africa is faced with a critical power deficit which threatens to send the country into the dark ages unless something is done.
Meanwhile, the government of Zimbabwe has been instrumental in facilitating the installation of solar power systems in rural communities. In Harare, plans are underway to have traffic lights running on solar. Trial projects are already running.
